Hey Disney friends. Welcome back to our podcast. I'm Jenny. And I am Emily. Hey Emily. We've got some news to share. We do. What is it? We have just signed up for the springtime surprise race in April. This is something we've never done before. We've only ever done marathon weekends. Yes. It's super exciting. It is very exciting. New race distances, new time of year. Yes. It's all it's all new. It's it really is going to be a springtime surprise because we haven't done this one. And I'm still like, I'm still jittery from the whole sign up process. Like my heart was racing. But anyway, we got in. We got in and we are doing the 10K and the 10 miler. So different race distances. We've never done a 10 miler before. No. Yeah, it's going to be fun. So we've signed up for this Disney race. Now what? Now what?
SPEAKER_02Street. Disney races.
JennyWe are two Canadian sisters who love every Disney adventure from travel with family to running marathons. Today's show we're taking you from registration day to race day, exploring the training, planning, and excitement that goes into a Disney race. Okay, Jenny. So we've signed up for a race. So now what? Number one, celebrate. Yes. Woohoo! It's so difficult to get into Disney races these days. People who might be listening who might have signed up for a Disney race will know that it's quite a process and it's almost like a lottery, really. And fortunately for you and me, we won that lottery. So we want to take you through what we are planning. We've signed up for a race. Perhaps you have as well. And then the question is so now, now what? What are the next steps? So step number one, celebrate. Step number two, calm down. Take a breath, let the adrenaline find its way. And yes, yes, you made the right decision. Oh my gosh, when your hands are shaking, trying to enter the registration information, and you know that as people are registering underneath of you, that those spots are getting filled up. It's so stressful. Yeah, my heart was racing. I thought we were we were both at our computers, both trying to sign up. I happened to get in first into the waiting room first. And so I registered for the two of us. And I think we were I had you on speaker phone, right? Remember, I kept saying, I think I'm gonna pass out. I made my way back. My heart was racing so much. So step number one, we celebrate and then we calm down and back to reality. So now, now that we're calm and we can think straight. Next step another step would be to, I guess, put the dates in the calendar because important thing. Yeah. And I it's funny because I've just made a note of that and we're talking about it, but I literally did not do that until probably a week later and I realized, oh my gosh, I didn't put that in my calendar. Like that would be terrible if I double booked myself for that weekend. So definitely put the dates in the calendar and include your race days and the race expo day because you will need to be there for the race expo to pick up your race kit. I mean, it's hard to forget that you're gonna be doing a Disney race. However, you might forget the actual date, like the April 9th or whatever it is. So, yeah, put your dates in your calendar. And for me, okay, for those of you retired, maybe it's not as crucial, but for those of us still working, book time off work. Make sure you can get the vacation time. You might have wanted to ahead of time to like, I know it's a possibility for me to get personal days those days. So I need to go ahead and do that. Most people would be in the same boat, but officially book time off work. Yes, that's important. I would say the next most important thing would be to book your accommodations. It's something that can get, I don't know, I just something wouldn't want to leave it to the last minute for a bunch of reasons. Like race weekends are really popular times at Disney, and I would just be worried that the rooms you wanted would be filled up or something would be more expensive than you hoped for. It will cost a little bit more because they're popular weekends. And if you're booking at with a Disney resort, you can just put a $200 deposit down and then pay for it all two months ahead of time needs to be paid for. But you've got some time. Like you've got time to just cancel the whole thing if you want. You can get your $200 back, you can change it if you want to. If any sales come up, you can apply that to your reservation. Right. So even if you book something and later on they have a discount, say sometimes they have discounts for Canadian visitors or or whatever it is. Like a room sale. So even if they don't have a room sale on when you brook it, you can still ask for that discount later, right? You kind of have to watch for it and ask for it. Like it won't automatically be applied to your reservation. Okay. But if you see it, you can call them up and say, please, you know, help me out here, and they they will. And I would recommend that. Like if you weren't gonna stay off on site, if you were staying at a different hotel, like maybe you have points somewhere, I don't know, with like Hilton or Marriott or I don't know, those hotel chains. A lot of times people use those kind of like their their awards points for like a weekend away. I would recommend booking with the ability to make changes to your your reservation because if you're gonna book so far out, but still, at least if you're booking, then you've got something. Yeah, I feel like there's just this peace of mind that comes with that. Like, okay, I have I've gotten to the race, I've booked the time off work, and my accommodations are booked. They might not be fully paid for, whatever, but at least you've secured a place to stay. And then everything else will kind of fall into place after that as we talk about it. We'll let you know. I would say another thing to think about then fairly soon if you're booking your accommodation, especially like international travelers like us, you might want to look into your flights and and book flights too, because the same kind of thing, like those kinds of things can can book up, and you wouldn't want to be left with well, you know, maybe instead of having a non-stop flight, you have to do like three stops or something just to get yourself there, or time of day arriving at midnight or something versus at 11 o'clock in the morning. You might want to think about those early on as well. Is it like do you have to do it this week, like right away? Maybe not, because they're still months away, months and months away. But I would I would prioritize that. I would definitely start looking at travel, especially if you're flying. And just seeing what the options are is helpful. And then you can kind of if you play the game of you know, researching when the seat sales are and all of that, you can kind of gamble it a little bit. And along with that, make sure your passport is up to date. Oh, yeah. Because those can sometimes take a long time to get sorted out as well. So things to kind of think about, uh you know, just to get your start getting your ducks in a row. Yeah, I don't know what it's like in other countries, but I know in Canada it can take a couple of months sometimes to get your passport, depending on how busy they are. I actually I think this is why I bring it up because I actually just just last week had to renew my passport and it's only gonna take a couple of weeks for me to get it. And you can you can do like, you know, or just expedite it. But I think just doing the standard way was just a couple of weeks, so it wasn't too bad. Okay. Yeah, wasn't too bad. Oh, okay. It's changed then because I think Well, I did go in. I didn't mail in my I didn't mail it in. I actually went to the passport office and I spent, you know, a good time waiting there for my turn. But but I should, yeah. So anyway. Definitely something to check, though, if you're an international traveler. That's right. Just a thought. So another really important thing then, you've thought about your accommodations, your transportation, or you're you're kind of making those big plans as far as the time away. But now it's time to start thinking about training plan and maybe what your goals are for this race, what the distance is and and that kind of thing. So start looking up some of the training plans. Yeah, I would think about what distance I'm running and yeah, what what is my goal for this? Is this my first race ever? Is my goal to finish upright and smiling? Do I run regularly and I have a more a different goal of maybe making a certain time, you know, whatever your goal may be, that will also affect what your training plan is. But the training plan is something I believe you should get on as early as you can. And just get out there and start moving. You don't have to wait, like if it's a three-month training plan, you don't have to wait to start. You can start running before that. Yeah, for sure. You want to build your base and and looking at the different, we've talked about different training plans on this podcast before. Of course, if you go to the Run Disney website, the Jeff Galloway program is is the Run Disney program, and it's a great program for sure. There are other ones if that one doesn't seem to really suit your schedule or kind of what your goals are. There are so many training plans out there. But generally speaking, for a long distance one, well, we've never done a 10-miler, but doing a half marathon or a full marathon, those are usually three or four month long training plans. Yeah. But I would, yeah, like you said, you don't want to just wait until then to start training. If you, especially like if you're not a regular runner, you might want a training plan before the training, like the uh the official race training plan. Like maybe you want to sign up for a shorter race or maybe in the months ahead of time, or maybe it's a routine that you want to get yourself into. Like consistency is key, right? Totally. So maybe it's just getting out three days a week for short distance run, walk, run. Because going slow at the start, slow and steady, you're gonna avoid injuries that way, or or be less likely, you know, less susceptible to injuries if you're starting off slow and steady. Yeah, that's very true. What type of what type of vacation are you thinking of? Because that can really affect a lot of things too. If you're so what type of Disney vacation will this be? Is it just going to be a weekend away where your only goal is to do the race? Are you there as a solo traveler? Are you going with family for a longer period of time? Like, is the race just part of a greater, a bigger vacation? There's all kinds of things that can affect your overall planning for the vacation and your budget. And it could even affect your training, even like if you're running with a group of friends or friends and family, that can make a difference to how you train. Like maybe you're gonna train with a group or maybe you're going solo. You mean train with a group that you're also gonna run the race with? Yeah. Yeah, I understand. Like we've done that before. Yeah. That's really fun to do. Totally. It's very motivating, especially during the race. Yeah. It's nice to have those people that you've trained those long miles with. Yeah, it was really community building for sure. Because we we went with the running room and just signed up for a clinic that whose goal race was the Disney race. And so we met people in our training group and then became like lifetime friends because we we all had this common goal of doing the Disney race. And then we yeah, it was fun. We spent a lot of hours together in the freezing cold winter months of training to run a race in January Florida. Again, this is gonna be different for us, though, the running at a different time of year in Florida because the January races have always been cool to start off in the morning, and sometimes they got hot like part way through the race, but running in April, I don't know what that's what it's gonna be like at five in the morning. Rumors have it that this is a hot race. Okay. So you're gonna love it, and I'm gonna suffer. That's gonna affect that's gonna affect what we wear, our outfits. Oh, totally. We should start planning them now. We should. We gotta come up with a good idea because the springtime surprise, uh, what was the theme? We don't have to do the theme, though. No. Anyway, we can do whatever we want. But I was just thinking, just sorry, to go back and like deciding what kind of trip you want. Like, we've done those races with the group of people that we trained with, and even within that, we have had different types of trips. Like, I remember like Debbie and Fern and that sort of those guys that we trained with, had a whatever I don't remember how long we went for, like maybe five days or something like that. But they were very focused on the races. They would stay home at night, they would go to bed early, like they were really good at like you know doing like following the rules of kind of like focusing on you have to get up at the crack of dawn, or actually before the crack of dawn while it's still dark out to get to the race and start running. It's all dark when you're starting, all that. Like they would go to bed at 8:30. Yeah, whereas we were there with mom and and your son George, yeah, and we were no, we were there to go to the parks and yeah, because with our family who also wanted the family vacation part. Well, really, mom was there is just to support us, but she was good for game for anything, really. Yeah, and because George was with us and mom, yeah, we it was a family vacation, and so we were getting up super early and running. It was the goofy back then was we did the half and the full. I don't think there was a 10K back then. No, there wasn't. And I'm not even sure if there was a 5k there was, was that there was because mom did the five. No, that was another year. I'm just thinking of the first year that you and I went with just mom and George. Yeah, mom and I walked, and you and George went ahead. Oh, okay. So we did the 5k too. My gosh, it's all a blur. Anyways, the point is that we also did the parks and didn't go to bed at 8 30 at night. Like we did a family vacation and a running vacation mixed into one. So maybe that's not great advice, but you can do a family vacation. I can't think if you go for enough days that you can have some park time, I suppose ideally after your race, then you could do both. But I think what your point was we even within our running group that we trained with, we all had we all had, we didn't spend the whole time together. Like we we did had our days that were different, and we had different types of trips, and and you can do it, you can do it how you want to do it. There are no rules. I'm talking about rules. There are no rules. There are rules. Suggestions like you should go to bed early and stay off your feet at night, but you know, yeah, you do you. That's what I say. So, okay, so you've picked a training plan and you're now getting some consistency and mileage, and oh, uh just a tip. If you are running one of those, especially if you're running one of the challenges and you're doing back-to-back races, strongly recommend that you have multiple pairs of running shoes that you'll want to alternate your long distance ones, like as like if you were training for a dopey or training for what's the challenge called for the the princess weekend? I don't know. It's maybe it's just called the challenge. Anyway, if you're doing like a 10K back-to-back to a half marathon, you probably want two pairs of shoes so you alternate which pairs of shoes, and especially even in training. That was advice that was given to us when we were training for the Goofy was to have first of all find the shoes that work for you the best. So you're doing all those miles and you're training, training, and you find those shoes, and then buy another pair so that you have two pairs of them. And we even did that during training, remember? Because for Goofy, we were running Saturdays and Sundays, and we would switch our shoes. Yeah, and I had two, I had shoes that were identical, same color, everything. And I put a number one and a number two on my shoes, and I used it, and then some like I used all the odd days were my number one shoes, and all the even days of the calendar were my number two shoes. Oh, that's a good way to go. So I didn't have to think about which ones did I just wear. Like it was just always, okay, it's the 11th today. I'm wearing number one shoes. Yeah. So if you ran again on the 13th, you wore your number one shoes again? Yep. Oh, okay. Because we were doing back to back, we were doing Saturday, Sunday runs. And then okay, somebody says, Well, what if it's the 31st and then the first? Okay, whatever. So I just run them my number one shoes back to back, but it's just made it easier for me to not have to think about which ones were which. Yeah. Like which ones did I last run in? And it's, you know, good enough, close enough. I kind of remember like in the beginning, like the first goofy that we did, that I had two different pairs of shoes that I really liked. Like I think I had Mizunos and Soconese, or like two, and so one pair was for the shorter half marathon, the other was for the full. But then after that, I think I had the same brand. But I don't know how I distinguished them, but I did. I don't remember. You have much better memory for all this stuff than I do for some reason. I don't remember which shoes I wore, but I do know I had two pairs. I do know that we were advised to have two pairs so that you weren't running on the it's just something about the foam and the shoe, and I wouldn't necessarily get a brand new pair of shoes right before and not wear them until race day.
SPEAKER_05Oh heck no.
JennyBecause I have had the same, like you know how you get your brand loyalty, and I had the same brand, the same style, but even within the new generation of shoes, it can be, you know, A6 2000s or whatever. It's it's slightly different, and they they might feel a little bit different, they might be a little bit sharper of a corner on the toe, or you know, the the box toe box might not be the same. So you just want to try those things out. They still do, it's not a like I want to say you have to break your shoes in. Maybe you do, but it's like an adjustment, just getting used to it. Just a couple of runs, even like just you don't have to do a lot. I just wouldn't have them fresh out of the box on race day, just in case. Yeah. Also, it takes a little bit to get the laces just right. Don't you find them? Yeah, I do. Yeah. Like I'm always tweaking them when I first at first. And then you kind of get them settled into their spot. Yeah, that's true, too. Yeah, it took a little shoe turn, didn't it? Uh-huh. I love talking about shoes. That's okay. Well, that means we can talk about outfits now. Oh. Which, you know, this idea of like making sure you wear something before you race in it, like you've practiced running in it, is a really good idea. And then we haven't. And then well, you know what? Like, I think I've talked about this before on the podcast, but there was a shirt, like a t-shirt that I bought to wear underneath of my my Disney bound shirt that I was wearing for the race, and it was a short sleeve shirt. And I had I thought I hadn't run, but I had run in it before, but not for a long distance. Like, definitely not for any of the long Sunday runs that I did. And that was dumb because I had the worst chafing I have ever had in my life underneath of my arms where the where the sleeve was rubbing against the underside of my upper arm. But maybe it was also the combination of because you were layering it and you also had you had a long sleeve on, you had your hydropack. Well, I took the long sleeve off really early on, and the chafing didn't start until probably just like over halfway. But I feel like the rain didn't help. Yes. And just the fact that it I had never worn it for that long before. So I think you should wear what you're gonna wear. Body glide or put like that there's body glide, and then there's another product that someone was just telling me about that's like a silicon-based one that lasts longer. Forget what the product name is, but basically put it anywhere you think there could be rubbing. Because even if it's like, oh no, I never chave here, just do it. Everywhere there's a humid and yeah. Worse than the humidity, I would think. But I think I yes, like put it everywhere. And I would also wear those clothes on a long run. So a couple of things I could Have done to avoid that terrible situation. Yeah. However, I survived. But let's talk more about outfits because that can mean all kinds of things. So I guess the thing is, you don't really know what the weather is going to be because, as they say, climate is what you expect and weather is what you get. So you really only know the weather a few days ahead of time, maybe a week ahead of time. But based on the climate, we know it's going to be warmer in the spring and like in April than it is in January. So for us, long pants and long sleeves in January, but I don't know, short shorts and short sleeves and t-shirts and in April. Yeah. Gotta investigate. I know. We have some research to do. Yeah. And then based on that, comfort. Comfort is key. Yes. And then based on after that, for us, cute. We're going for Disney. We like to do a Disney bound outfit when we're doing the we've and again, we've talked about this before, but we like to do it because we think it's more fun. But mostly this is selfish. Uh, you get more cheers from spectators when they can recognize you as a character. They will call out your character name and you know that they're cheering for you. And we've run like again with friends, and and they'll wear their regular running clothes, and we would have a goofy hat on or something like that. And from our group of people, people would be going, go goofy, or what have you. And it definitely helps when you're getting tired. It does. The crowd support is really helpful, it's so important. Yeah. And like, there's not like not everybody wears a Disney bound or a costume of some kind. Like wear what you want. Totally. Go with comfort, be comfortable, number one. And maybe some people don't want to be looked at necessarily. You know what I mean? Like they don't necessarily stand out in a crowd. Right. Yeah. So go for comfort. But for us, it was, you know, always helpful to put on a little extra. I'm kind of thinking about us and our training because we're gonna be running in the winter months leading up to this race in April. And here it's still gonna be winter. There's still gonna be snow on the ground. There's still gonna be still gonna be cold out. I mean, maybe, maybe not, but mostly like, oh, it's just the first week of April. So no, yeah, well like most likely. Most likely they'll still because we've had ice storms in on April 22nd before. Yeah, that's extreme, but yeah, but yeah, I mean March, you can get huge dumps of snow. So we're gonna have difficult training. We won't have a lot of time to practice in clothing that is sort of more appropriate for the weather in Florida at the time. So here's what I'm thinking is that I'm gonna try wearing, like, say the shorts and t-shirt that I'll run in underneath of my longer sweater, whatever, long pants, like just so that I have it on as the first layer. And I guess my bot it's gonna be a little bit different, but I don't know. What do you think of that? Yeah, that's a good idea, actually. I like just get used to it running in it, but also like it's summertime in Canada right now, and it is hot and humid right now. People might not believe us, but oh my gosh, we're in a heat wave. Yeah, perpetual heat wave, it feels like it's warm out there and it's humid out there, so maybe we wear clothes that we know that we wear in the summertime and run in, you know, like yeah, you're tried and tested with your old faithfuls, you know? Yeah, we could figure it out now. That's true. Good plan. Yeah, I'm excited to plan our outfits for the two races. I know I'm I I can't think of what we should do. This is gonna consume us for a while. Yeah, like I've had some ideas and like maybe this, maybe that, but I'm gonna keep it top secret for now. Top secret. Okay. Some other things. Let's move on. Okay, so you're training. We're talking about trying out what you're gonna wear and your old faithfuls, your shoes. When I'm training for Disney runs and long runs, I like to listen to podcasts. So get your favorite Disney podcasts out there. Like rope, drop, and run. Listen to us while you're running. That's right. That's kind of why we started this podcast was because I ran out of podcasts to listen to. Like, I'm gonna still listen to the ones I always listen to, like on those runs. Like I like the Pixie Dust fan club and I like the Rise and Run podcast. They're great. And their episodes are nice and long. So if you're out on a long run, you can go for like two hours sometimes on one episode. But add us in there too, if you're out for a three-hour long training run. Get your podcasts going. Yeah, it's true. Like we I literally ran out of podcasts to listen to. I ran so much listening to the Disney podcast that I'd be like, I've already listened to that episode, I've already listened to this one. There's no not enough. I need another one. I was consuming it a little bit. That's right. I mean, I listened to other things other than Disney podcasts as well, but especially when we're training for a Disney race, I just that was the mood I was in. I wanted to hear more, like okay, lightning lanes or restaurant reviews, or you know, whatever. Just at people's take. Like I just wanted that Disney vibe. I'm gonna say that half the fun, but maybe even more than half the fun of a Disney vacation is the anticipation and the planning. And listening to people talk about all the places you can eat and like the the advice that they have for how you know certain things in your vacation, like it just I don't know, gets me going. I'm like, oh. I mean, I I agree, but there's also I always have to be devil's advocate. But there's at the same time, sometimes it's just the unknown. Like sometimes I feel like if we overplan or not necessarily over plan, that's not true. Sometimes I think that I listen to other people's opinions too much instead of like instead of just discovering something, like looking stuff up and thinking, like, oh, I think I would enjoy that. I don't know if that makes any sense. Okay, let me let me put it up there. The cheeseburger egg rolls. I do you were gonna say that because there's so many people that are like, this is a must-have snack. They're disgusting. They're they were they're not my cup of tea. Pizza. And like I'm kind of mad. Yeah, I'm kind of not mad. That's not true. It's just like that never, I never would have thought, oh, I must try this. And it was the hype. So I think that's where I'm obviously that's where I'm going with it. But I don't, I don't want to get sucked into the hype of other people's thoughts. I want to trust, like, yes, see what's out there because sometimes there's so much out there, like I can't even discover it. Because there is a restaurant I really want to try. Oh, because I learned like it's the one that's I've told you about it at the Caribbean beach. Yeah. Uh, so I really want to try that one. I don't think there's a lot of hype up around it. No. But that to me is like, okay, yes. So but if people are hyping up about something else, like like spirit jerseys, uh, it's just not like a day or leave, whatever. That's fine. You can you can hype up about it, but I'm not gonna get sucked into it. I'm not gonna buy one just because everybody loves them. I think spirit jerseys, like this is a phenomenon that we do not really have here that I know, you know. Like I I think it might be a phenomenon that happens in the US. Okay, that's amazing. College thing or something, maybe spirit jerseys. I don't know. I don't know. I don't even know. Like the thing is I don't even know. Like, it's just not a it's not a thing for me. Yeah, and me either. It's just not a shirt that I would wear. It's not yeah, so it's fine. I'm gonna I know. So I d but I guess what my point is like I just don't want to force it. Yes, yeah. I know what you mean. I knew you were gonna say the cheeseburger egg rolls because we were like, these are viral on TikTok. We gotta try these. We waited in a huge line, and then they ran out of whatever flavor it was. So we waited for them to make more, and then it was like, I ate it because you know we bought it, and it was like, Yeah, I do not, I do not have the same taste, so there's a lot of people out there like no thank you. Yeah, but that's okay because there's a lot of other stuff I do love, so um, I can just I can skip the cheeseburger egg roll line. Yeah. As we go like back again and again, we start to learn the things that we do like. The our favorites become our own. And yeah, yeah, I don't know. It's still fun to hear what other people like. Totally discerning eye. Well, and you like it's I guess it's fun to hear it, but it doesn't mean I have to do it. If it doesn't, if it doesn't resonate with me, if it doesn't sound like something that I would I would love, but because you never know. You never know. Didn't used to like Brussels sprouts until you know I guess. I saw a guy like an influencer eating this um lime sorbet type, I don't know, wasn't Dole Whip, but that kind of thing with churros in it. And it was like really bright green color, and I just thought that is going, this is my new favorite, I'm never coming without it and not having it. And I went, oh, that that is interesting. Thing is, we I suppose like if you're with you know a group of people, one person get it, everybody had a little spoonful. That's what we did with the turkey leg. Remember we all like kind of took a bite out of it. I mean, it would feed an army, yeah. It's so big. But you just don't know, I guess, until you try. That's true. So I'll just talk about food. Oh, yeah. Yeah, if you're like staying at a Disney resort, you can start planning your I mean, you can start planning your meals regardless of where you're staying. But the luxury, one of the luxuries or perks, I guess, of staying at a Disney resort is that you can book your sit-down dining if you choose to do those kinds of meals 60 days in advance of your first day of your trip. And that means that 60 days in advance of that first day, you can book all of your sit-down dining for your whole trip. If you've booked a resort, if a Disney resort. Exactly. But if you're off site, if you're gonna stay not at a Disney resort, you can book 60 days in advance for that day, that is 60 days in advance. And then the next day that you're 60 days in advance of, you can book that day. So you're booking like day by day by day. So a little more work involved because you've got to do it every day. Yeah. And some of the places book up. Yeah. And depending on the time of the year, some will book up faster than others, but if you're doing it 60 days in advance, it should be fine. Like I don't know if anything. Well, the beacon barrel might book up pretty fast because it's still relatively new, but yeah. And if you buy springtime surprise or Princess Weekend, maybe it wouldn't be as much. Anyway, who knows? Yeah. If you if you know you want to do it, I guess make your reservations. Yeah, if you know you want to do any kind of sit-down meal, then I would be thinking about that, not 60 days out, but even before that, like maybe three months out, so you can start thinking about it and kind of planning out what you're hoping for, so that 60 days out you can just go in and book it, and you're not kind of guessing at like, oh dunno, should we eat here on this day? And you know. And then you can also look on the Disney website and you can see all the menus, you can see all the prices, you have a really good idea of what food is offered, like what you might appeal to you, the cost of everything, what you kind of folded when you can look at the menus ahead of time, and then know, okay, this is where we have it booked. Yeah, so I know it's gonna cost this much. And what's gonna be a splurge or not? Yeah. And yeah. What else? Um, anything else? One thing that we hadn't mentioned, and this might be important when you're thinking about your training plans, is the rate pace race requirements. And it's like a 10-minute kilometer or 16-minute mile, right? Minimum minimum pace requirements. Yeah. And if this is probably something if you've already registered for the race, you would have already been asked about your anticipated finish time, and you might have to have a proof of time. You can update those later on. Yes. But there is a deadline depending on what race you're at. Like if you're going for the marathon weekend, the princess weekend, whatever, there's different deadlines. So check the Run Disney website, but you can you can update those proof of times if you think you're gonna finish faster in one of the earlier corrals that you want to start in one of the earlier corrals, but there is a deadline to submit that. I just off the top of my head, I don't know what it is. So double check. It's a couple of months ahead of time, at least. So and w the proof of time I think depends like the race that you're using as a proof of time. Does it need to be a certain distance for the race that you're running? Yes, it does, and also needs to be within, like you can't have done it, you know, back in 2015. It has to it has to be something. Does it have to be within the last year? I think so. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
JennyThere are yeah, there are some requirements for proof of time. And that's fair, like for those runners that this is more about getting a good time, not just having a good time. Well, and not and not even for some people, they're just fast, they're naturally faster runners. So even for them, if they're not necessarily racing it for them, but it can be it still can be frustrating if your natural, even your easy pace is just naturally faster than somebody else. It can be really frustrating if you're constantly tripping over people who are slower than you. Yeah. And so that that would hurt their enjoyment of the race. Whether or not they're trying to get a personal best or not, it's still just fair for them if they're allowed to, you know, run it with enjoyment as well. Yeah, true. Okay, so just for example, I just did a quick search. Like if you were running the princess half marathon weekend, the proof of time deadline is October 1st. So it's quite a like you you, it's months ahead of time. Yeah, because princess isn't until February. Right. Or like the Disney Marathon weekend, it's August 3rd, it says. So yeah, you do need to have that in if you wanted to update. Great. Well, that's a lot of advice that we've given from signing up for the race to making it to race day. Yeah, lots of time to be excited. Like you said, the anticipation is great. All right, so now it's time for a great big beautiful update.
SPEAKER_00There's a great big beautiful tomorrow. Shining at the end of every day. There's a great big beautiful tomorrow. And tomorrow's just a dream away.
JennyWhat is your great big beautiful update for today? Okay, I'll go first. My great big beautiful update is something that I'm looking forward to, which is my next Disney trip in August. And today, Charlie and I were talking about our Halloween costumes because we have tickets for the Mickey's not so scary Halloween party. Well, that's exciting. I know, and I we were just sort of looking online at what our group of three, me, Molly, and Charlie, could be. And we've got some ideas, and I'm not revealing them to you right now because I don't think I have Charlie on board totally and haven't talked to Molly about it yet. But it's just fun. I guess that's just my big beautiful update is that it's the future, something to look forward to, and also part of that anticipation of the trip. Okay, well, I don't want to be comparisons, but mine's not nearly as exciting. Oh, what's yours? Well, it is exciting, actually. It's just it doesn't sound as exciting. I have started to tackle a little renovation in one of my rooms in my house, and right now it is demolition zone, and I'm just really looking forward to it being done. And it's something that I've wanted to do for like since living there, like for years, years and years and years. And so I'm just really looking forward to it being done. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do it. Yeah, that that's what's happened. I mean, and so I'm in this like construction zone basically. It's not that bad, but it's like it's happening, and uh there's no turning back now, and I'm just really excited about it. And so I have half of the half of the room has been demolished. Uh basically I'm taking off the old seven 1970s faux wood paneling now that has been painted over a million times, and so the paneling is off half of the room, and I look at it and there's lots of repair jobs that needs to happen, but I'm like, oh yes, this is gonna be good. I have wanted this for so long. So that's my yeah, that's what I'm looking forward to. It's a great update, yeah. Well, friends, that's it for this episode of Rope Drop and Run.
